Can I Reset My Lesson if I Make a Mistake?
If you make a mistake while completing a lesson in the SI Lab Portal, you may be able to reset it depending on the lesson settings. Resetting a lesson gives you a fresh attempt so you can redo the work and improve your results.
Step 1: Check if a Reset Is Allowed
- Some lessons allow multiple attempts, while others require instructor permission.
- If your instructor sets the lesson to allow for multiple attempts, go to the lesson and click "Try Again" to start a new attempt.

- If the lesson does not allow a reset on your own, you will need to request an exception from your instructor.
Step 2: Request an Exception
- After clicking Start on the activity from your Class Homepage, the launch page will indicate if your attempt is restricted.
- Click Request Exception on the activity’s launch page (this button is at the bottom of the page).
A. Error icon — An indicator that identifies which access condition(s) you're missing that's restricting you from beginning your attempt.
B. Error message — Statement that you don't satisfy the requirements for the activity.
C. Request Exception button — The Request Exception button will be visible instead of the Start button (and Close instead of Cancel).
You will be directed to the Proctor Authorization Request page. Use this page to contact your instructor or proctor to request permission to start or reset the activity.
Important Notes
- When requesting an exception, email your instructor or proctor with all necessary information to process your request:
- Your name
- Your student ID number
- Whether local or remote authorization is needed
- The name of the activity you are requesting an exception for
- The class that contains the activity
- Once your instructor or proctor approves your request, you will be navigated directly into the activity to begin a new attempt.
- It is at the discretion of your instructor or proctor to grant an exception.
- Resetting a lesson may affect your grade depending on how attempts are scored.
- Extra time on a timed activity requires contacting your instructor or proctor directly.
